Set in the late 1970s at the cusp of mental health reform, Shrink theatre present an immersive theatrical journey through an institution on the verge of closure. Delve into the lives of our residents and staff, and take your place in the system during this pivotal time. Will Northfields provide the care you require? And what do you know about running a hospital?
Reflecting on the NHS past and present, we challenge you to think about the treatment of mental health both medically and socially, then and now. How much has really changed in 40 years?
Proudly supported by Theatre Delicatessen and Shoreditch Town Hall, we are excited to return Northfields to it's original site at Faith Drama Productions. Many thanks to The Dragon Café, Extreme Psychiatry, RE:CREATE Psychiatry and The Lab Collective with the development of this show!
Shrink teamed up with fellow bright new companies to dazzle pedestrians with some theatrical magic. Organised by the brilliant Attila Theatre, each company performed a scene from some of the Bard’s best works. Which did we do? Why, an interactive and immersive ‘Macbeth’ of course!
Departure Point was a ten-week programme run by Theatre Delicatessen to creatively support and mentor emerging theatre companies. We learnt a range of skills from project management to set-building to marketing. Shrink also used the ten weeks to further develop our practice, culminating in a scratch performance for prospective partners.
Shrink had twenty-four hours in a space provided by festival organisers Faith Drama to devise a fifteen minute performance. We went on to win both the ‘Audience Choice’ and ‘Judges’ Award securing mentoring from Gbemisola Ikumelo and a grant to develop our work further.
