Shrink Theatre Company was founded in November 2014 by Fourth Monkey alumni. We made our debut in the site-responsive ‘Theatre Madness Festival’ hosted by Faith Drama in December 2014. The immersive, promenade experience we devised won both the ‘Audience Choice’ and ‘Judges’ Award, securing mentoring from Gbemisola Ikumelo at Faith Drama as a result. In July 2015 Shrink were accepted onto ‘Departure Point’, a ten-week programme run by Theatre Delicatessen to support emerging artists, culminating in a scratch showing of our piece ‘Northfields’ for potential partners and industry professionals. As a result, Shrink continued to develop ‘Northfields’ further at Theatre Delicatessen and Shoreditch Town Hall earlier this year and will be opening the doors to a full length ‘Northfields’ in 2017.
Our Mission Statement
Shrink Theatre combine a diverse mix of the physical, traditional and sometimes just plain absurd to create rhythmical, immersive performances inspired by socio-political issues for non-traditional theatre spaces.
Using skills developed in our training together at Fourth Monkey Theatre Company and the experience we gained devising immersive, promenade performances we work efficiently as a consistently large ensemble, taking turns to be the ‘outside eye’. Our personal experiences have driven us to produce an alternative to traditional theatre that involves and excites others.
We engage a wider range of people in theatre by reaching out to local communities where we perform and marginalised groups. We are also committed to tackling the gender bias in the industry by making a promise to ensure our company comprises at least 50% women at all times.
